Passing of a Dedicated Swimming Coach – Dick Evans

It is with sadness that we have to pass on the news that Dick Evans died on the 7th November.

Dick joined Chippenham ASC with the rest of his family in 1970. What followed was  47 years of devoted volunteering for swimming and particularly for Wiltshire swimming.

He was a qualified Teacher, Coach and Judge and Timekeeper.   He taught swimming not only to the young swimmers but was brilliant with the adult beginners, ran Lifesaving and Water Polo sessions and coached for many years as Assistant and then head coach. He was Coach at Dauntsey School for 15 years, helped his wife Bo at Marlborough College and also spent a short time as coach at Calne Alpha 4.

He gave a huge amount of time to Wiltshire, still officiating in his late 70’s. He coached the Easter Courses on both weeks at Wroughton and Pewsey for 25 years and coached the Saturday morning County Training session at Pewsey for 30 years, first working under Doreen Clark but then taking the session together with Bo. So many swimmers have reason to be thankful to his calm and committed approach.

His funeral will be held at West Wilts Crematorium, Semington, BA14 6HL on Tuesday 25th November at 11am . Afterwards at The Greyhound at Bromham  SN15 2HA
