Wiltshire Swimming strongly supports child safeguarding and in so doing conforms to the Swim England Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures which are laid down in the document “Wavepower 2020 – 2023”. All Swim England affiliated clubs and organisations are expected to adopt the policies, procedures and guidance laid down in Wavepower. The document contains specific guidance aimed at young people, coaching staff and parents.

A copy of this document should be held by all Club Welfare Officers in the county and made available for reference to all club officers, club members, coaching staff, parents, children and young people so that everyone involved in the sport can play their part in safeguarding children and young people.

Wavepower is also available online and can be downloaded in sections at:

http://www.swimming.org/asa/clubs-and-members/safeguarding-children/

This is a very extensive document, the various parts of which should be brought to the attention of everyone involved in swimming as appropriate, not just the Club Welfare Officer. Committee members, teachers & coaches, parents and swimmers should be familiar with the parts which concern them.

Wavepower sections of particular interest will be:

Section 2         Toolbox for Clubs  (of general interest to club committee)

Section 4         Information & Guidance to coaches, teachers & poolside helpers

Section 5         Information & Guidance to swimmers 17 and under

Section 6         Information & Guidance to parents

To assist the county association in adopting Wavepower in its entirety all Club Welfare Officers should be familiar with its contents and ensure that they are communicated to all persons in their clubs.

If you have any queries concerning child safeguarding matters please contact your Club Welfare Officer or the County Welfare Officer.
