16 Wiltshire clubs descended on Hengrove Leisure centre in Bristol on Sunsay to restart the Countywide League competitions that have not reconvened post pandemic. What a spectacle of racing and atmosphere experienced by swimmers and parents alike in the 2 Division Galas with noise levels growing and reaching a climax in the final event of each competition, the 8×2 cannon relays.
This was a totally new venture devised by the League Management Committee and combined the very best of Winter and Summer Leagues in terms of relays and individual swims, change of age groups to reflect changes brought about by the pandemic and the use of mixed relays as well as in the traditional final cannon relay. For many this was a first opportunity to compete as well as participate in a team competition and coupled with the journey on the team bus was an enjoyable return to team competition for Wiltshire clubs.
Congratulations to all participating Clubs especially the winners – Swindon Dolphin in Division 1 and Swindon in Division 2 and a huge thank you to the staff at Hengrove Leisure Centre, all the officials and volunteers for giving their time and ensuring the success of the day.
