{"id":5305,"date":"2023-08-03T20:56:01","date_gmt":"2023-08-03T19:56:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wiltshireswimming.co.uk\/?p=5305"},"modified":"2023-08-03T20:57:10","modified_gmt":"2023-08-03T19:57:10","slug":"suzanna-hext-wins-para-swimming-world-championship-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.wiltshireswimming.co.uk\/?p=5305","title":{"rendered":"Suzanna Hext wins Para Swimming World Championship Gold"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"article__aligner\">\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>Suzanna Hext took her first ever World Championship title with a stellar performance in the Women\u2019s S5 50m Freestyle \u2013 getting the touch over her two competitors in the adjacent lanes to see her return to a Worlds podium for the first time since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The 34 year-old was seeded second for the one length \u2018splash and dash\u2019 following a solid showing in the heats, which saw her lined up against solid opposition with a whole host of experience at this level.<\/p>\n<p>Following a start which saw her right up with the athletes at the top of the pack, she did well to bide her time and stomach the charge of China\u2019s Lu Dong \u2013 as her and Ukraine\u2019s Iryna Poida both made a move when the race made its way towards the flags and hit the wall simultaneously \u2013 before ultimately taking the gold medal in a new personal best time of 36.71, just two hundredths of a second ahead of Poida for the silver.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s an honour to get the Great Britain team going&#8221;, said Hext after she took the first medal of the competition for Great Britain.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hopefully that\u2019s the first of many to come as it\u2019s a very exciting week ahead.
